Who is he?
“Dexter Goldberg immediately established himself among the most talented French jazz pianists”Louis-Julien Nicolaou, Télérama
Dexter Goldberg is now establishing himself as an unmissable figure of the French music scene. With his album Caliboudja, named “Choc” by Jazz Magazine and “Indispensable” by Jazz News, he unfolds a trio art in perpetual metamorphosis. A co-creator of Louise&Dexter, his jazz flirts with classical music and all the sonorities of the piano. From Japan to Canada by way of Europe, his music takes audiences on a resolutely lively, luminous and free jazz journey.
Right now, Dexter is working on the trio's next album. Stay tuned!
Bio
Born in Paris in 1987, Dexter grew up in a family of artists. He began music with percussion and very quickly took to composition and improvisation. He only came to the piano at the age of 16, yet quickly made his creative world flourish there. From 2007 he studied with Olivier Hutman, Misja Fitzgerald and Philippe Baudoin.
In 2010 he was hired by the American saxophonist Ricky Ford (Charles Mingus, McCoy Tyner, etc.) for two CDs: “7095” (Harmonia Mundi) and “Sacred Concert”. He also met the drummer Sangoma Everett, with whom he would tour internationally.
Dexter then entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris (jazz and improvised music department), where he studied composition, piano and rhythm with Pierre De Bethmann, Dré Pallemaerts, François Théberge and Riccardo Del Fra. That same year he played with the famous Benny Golson at the festival “Les Tombées de la Nuit”.

He recorded his third CD with his father Michel Goldberg in a quartet (the CD “Pure Imagination”) and appeared with various groups (“Ricky Ford Duo”, “Robin Mansanti Trio”, “BzH Crew” with Maxence Ravelomanantsoa, etc.).
He won first prize at the Conservatoire de Paris in 2014 and decided to form the Dexter Goldberg Trio, with which he won the “Fresh Sound” programme and the Prix d'Honneur (jazz section) of the Léopold Bellan International Competition.
From 2015, Dexter Goldberg's talent kept revealing itself through the venues and partners who trusted him (Sunset-Sunside, Jazz à l'Ouest, 38Riv). Dexter is also very active as a sideman and is regularly called to play with American and French jazz musicians (Ralph Moore, Gene Perla, Jason Marsalis, Steve McCraven and John Betsch, to name just a few).
After a tour of Quebec, the trio recorded its first album “Tell Me Something New”, released in 2018 on the Jazz&People label. It was warmly praised by the press (Révélation Jazz Magazine) and got airplay on France Musique, FIP and TSF.
Dexter Goldberg increasingly performs at the major jazz festivals in France (Jazz in Marciac, Marseille Jazz des 5 Continents, Jazz à Vienne, Avignon Jazz Festival, Saint-Omer Jazz Festival, Anglet Jazz Festival, Lille Piano Festival, etc.).
He works with Parisian musicians and regularly records albums.
In 2022 he recorded a new trio album with drummer Raphaël Pannier and double bassist Clément Daldosso; it is called Caliboudja.
The album was released in September 2023 on the Jazz&People/Dexter's Music label and was named Choc by Jazz Magazine and Indispensable by Jazznews. The CD figures among the 40 best international albums of 2023.
The following year, the trio went on an international tour for the album's release, with the support of Adami and SPEDIDAM (Spain, Belgium, France). It also played at the biggest jazz festival in Japan, the Takatsuki Jazz Street.
In 2025, Dexter released the album Faits pour s'entendre with classical pianist Louise Akili, who happens to be his wife (now Louise Goldberg): a four-hand piano crossover that received very good reviews (3T Télérama, Matinale de France Musique, etc.).
On a South Korean tour in 2025-2026 with violinist Son Moeun, winner of the Concours de Jazz à la Défense in 2025. They recorded a new album, “Murmures d'après”.
